Read this based on a recommendation from a friend. This book is one chapter investing tips and the rest is the story of the legendary Turtle Traders. As a UVa alumnus, it was fun to read about how a fellow former Hoo was at the conception of Turtle Trading and is one of the most successful traders in the world today right out of Richmond, Virginia. Covers both the general idea of trend following and also the human story behind the turtle traders. I think that “Michael Covel” has done a very good job to write the book.
I’m slowly becoming a turtle trader after blowing up several times. With this mindset shift, regardless of account size, they could make the right trading decisions. It was the ultimate goal to help the turtles to understand that the speculation takes place in a limitless environment, but if they didn’t protect their capital the probabilities would catch up with them. In today’s episode, they continue their conversation about relevant points from the book. They evaluate several excerpts from the book to try to figure out whether or not it’s possible for new traders to truly make millions.
This true-story book details how trader Richard Dennis, who made millions on Wall Street, believed that anyone could follow his trajectory to make their own fortune. He made a wager with a partner to prove it, and recruited novice traders via the Wall Street Journal to prove his point. As it turned out, by teaching his methods, a significant majority of the applicants became successful traders. He shows how Dennis’s rules worked-and can still work today-for any investor with the desire and commitment to learn from one of the greatest investing stories of all time.

“This can’t be what I think it is” was a common refrain. It was, unbelievably, an invitation to learn at the feet of Chicago’s greatest living trader and then use his money to trade and take a piece of the profits. In the early 1980s, when Chicago’s reigning trader king, Richard Dennis, decided to conduct his real-life social experiment, Wall Street was heating up.
If I find myself thinking about the cinematic decisions the director made, it probably wasn’t a good movie. While reading this book, I kept wondering why the editor, presumably a person trained in good writing, didn’t do a better job providing some coherence by winnowing The Complete Turtle Trader: How 23 Novice Investors Became Overnight Millionaires out the chaff and fluff. Virtually alone among the many reviewers of this book, I found The Complete TurtleTader to be both devoid of artful writing, and skimpy on trading advice. There are two qualities that I look for when I read a book like this one.
Love this book great read flows with me from start to finish. Nothing The Complete Turtle Trader: How 23 Novice Investors Became Overnight Millionaires is offered, it is a book filled with names and second-hand stories.
Item 4 The Complete Turtletrader By Michael Covel 4
The most difficult part of turtle trading is the position sizing and risk management. Even R Dennis said if you publish my rules on the newspaper, no one will follow. I just dont buy the market ranging for 80% of the time.
Just search for “Original Turtle Trading Rules” and you can find a PDF. It seems that one Turtle started selling the system, which offended other Turtles who retaliated by posting the rules for free. If the actual system rules are what you are after, you don’t need to buy any books.

He shows how Dennis’s rules worked—and can still work today—for any investor with the desire and commitment to learn from one of the greatest investing stories of all time.
I love Michael Covels writing style, he lays it all down and its up to the reader to mine for those nuggets applicable to them at that time. I feel you could pick Michael Covels books up again and again and find a gem hiding in plain sight. Most of the book is the somewhat entertaining story of Dennis and the Turtles, but Covel does finally spell out what the Turtles’ System One and System Two actually are. Note, however, that the Turtle rules are available online for free.
Item 4 The Complete Turtletrader : How 23 Novice Investors Became Overnight .. 4
It is the definitive book on the subject and has been translated into German, Japanese, Chinese , Korean and Russian. This is The Complete Turtle Trader: How 23 Novice Investors Became Overnight Millionaires the story of how a group of rag tag students, many with no Wall Street experience, were trained to be millionaire traders.
Well written and with a really interesting story about the turtle traders. The idea of the book and the turtle traders could have great potential. But this was written more like a drama show than an informative, educational book. I dont care if this person was jealous of the other, or that person left the company because he was emotional. I wanted the nitty gritty; what the experiment was about, how they traded, what worked and what didnt.

Mike Covel tells a good story and it is a must read if you are interested in this trading strategy. I do believe that even non-traders will enjoy reading this book, but if you are a trader, then this will be a 5 star any day.
The author is obsessed with the main guy’s political affiliation. This book is suppose to be about a group of individuals who are taught a system on how to be successful in the stock market and a good chunk of the book is spent talking about richard dennis political views. I don’t expect this book to appeal to the mass of readers but if you’re part of the special group of traders then you need to have this book in your library an https://forex-trend.net/ make a serious study of it. I really appreciated how the Covel made key distinctions later in the book on the differences in the results of the turtles during Dennis’ supervision and the success after the experiment was halted. Covel described the differences in character traits and mindsets that were ultimately responsible for each participant’s destiny both during and after the experiment, as well as Richard Dennis himself.
Tim and Stephen discuss how this is an invaluable approach to the The Complete Turtle Trader: How 23 Novice Investors Became Overnight Millionaires market. After all, if you bet too big, it’s a probabilities game.
